The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. The MHT provides for the personal care and comfort of psychiatric patients. In addition, the MHT maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment and participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required along with certification. Associate’s Degree or equivalent hours of college coursework in relevant field preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: three (3) years inpatient pediatric psychiatry experience is acceptable with only a High School Diploma, or CDCA, RBT or QMHS required for individuals that possess only a High School Diploma.
- Ability to deal with crisis situations which require prompt decision and action.
- Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using Hospital computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions.
- Practical and creative problem solving skills.
- Additional languages in addition to English preferred.
- Experience: At least three (1) year experience with at-risk youth, development disabilities, autism, or psychiatric/mental health conditions preferred.
