HVAC Engineering Staff Lab Technician (2nd shift)

Role Overview

Carrier is seeking an experienced and dependable HVAC Engineering Staff Lab Technician for our 2nd shift (3pm to 11:30pm) operations in Charlotte. This is a high impact, hands on role where you will be responsible for the technical execution of test runs on water cooled and air-cooled commercial chillers.

What You Will Do

Test Execution: Personally execute test runs, set up chillers with relevant instrumentation (flow meters, pressure sensors, etc.), and monitor data acquisition systems. Electrical Expertise: Work safely with electrical equipment, including 460V/3ph/60Hz machinery, while maintaining EPA certification for refrigerant handling.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED
• 5+ years previous experience servicing/maintaining commercial HVAC equipment
• Specialized Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience in Chiller/HVAC operations and station maintenance, or 5+ years in a laboratory environment managing high-power mechanical/electrical machinery
• Education & Trade: AS or AAS in Mechatronics Engineering Technology (or related technical field), or completion of a formal Skilled Trades Apprenticeship
• Electrical Safety & High Power: Comprehensive awareness of High Voltage and High Power electrical safety, including proficiency in Arc Flash protocols and medium voltage operations
• Systems & Controls: 2+ years of experience with precise measurement systems (electrical, temperature, pressure, flow) and a proven ability to independently perform loop tuning and manage closed-loop system stability
• Software Literacy & Diagnostics: Proficiency in LabView / LabPro applications or National Instruments systems, paired with a functional understanding of PLC diagnostics and complex blueprint interpretation
