Video Journalist

The Houston Chronicle is looking for a Video Journalist to produce high-quality video and help bring our journalism to life through compelling storytelling. This role involves reporting, shooting, and editing video across a range of formats, including breaking news, features, and YouTube projects.

Requirements

• Report, shoot, and edit video across formats, including breaking news, explainers, features, and franchise series
• Capture high-quality footage in the field, including interviews, live events, and on-the-ground reporting
• Shape stories through editing, with strong pacing, clean audio, and clear narrative structure
• Collaborate with producers, reporters, editors, and audience teams to execute video tied to newsroom priorities
• Maintain visual consistency and quality across recurring formats and franchises
• Ensure all video meets strong editorial, technical, and production standards
• Manage footage, project files, and assets with clear organization and version control
• Work efficiently under deadline pressure while maintaining a high level of craft
