Hydro Ottawa seeks a Power Cable Technician to construct, maintain, operate, and repair underground distribution systems, particularly cable and electrical equipment installation and connection. The role involves hands-on work, problem-solving, and prioritizing safety. The technician will work in confined spaces, vaults, substations, trenches, and pole work. They will also perform live line work, operate equipment, and analyze GIS maps.
Requirements
- Install, remove, and repair cable in confined spaces, vaults, substations, trenches, and pole work.
- Perform live line work on the underground system.
- Operate equipment such as aerial devices, voltmeter, ammeter, meg meter, and cable fault tester.
- Construct and maintain primary and secondary distribution vaults.
- Install and connect new residential single-phase meters.
- Remove asbestos in accordance with approved practices.
- Install, maintain, operate, and repair power transformers and switchgear stations equipment.
- Analyze GIS maps and update accordingly.
- Troubleshoot, locate, and evaluate primary and secondary faults.
- Provide on-call duties and other overtime work as required.
