Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is a statewide nonprofit agency founded in 1867 that partners with the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to deliver comprehensive social services across the state. LSSI's core mission is to support Illinois' most vulnerable residents—over 80% of whom earn less than $15,000 annually—through a continuum of programs that include foster care, mental health and addiction treatment, affordable senior housing, and residential services for people with developmental disabilities. The organization also facilitates the reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals and provides family-support and adoption-preservation services, ensuring that care is coordinated from early childhood to adulthood. Its long-standing heritage, statewide reach, and faith-based partnership give LSSI a distinctive capacity to blend compassionate care with proven social-work expertise, making it an attractive workplace for professionals committed to meaningful community impact.
