Marathon Petroleum is seeking a Senior Counsel, Commercial to provide strategic legal support to the company’s commercial operations. Experience supporting trading or trade floor operations is strongly preferred. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, delivering practical, real-time legal guidance on complex commercial transactions and operational matters that drive enterprise value.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree required.
- Active license to practice law in a U.S. state; must obtain and maintain Ohio (or applicable state) bar membership.
- Minimum of ten years of licensed legal experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience of legal experience supporting trading or trade floor operations, though other relevant experience from the downstream energy sector in marketing or logistics will be considered.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align legal advice to commercial objectives.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders.
- Excellent communication skills with clarity, credibility, and sound judgment.
- Strong negotiation and contract drafting capabilities.
- Ability to identify and manage legal risk while enabling business outcomes.
