Join Mizuho as a SQL Server Lead DBA and manage a team accountable for the company’s SQL Server database systems ensuring resiliency, uptime, HA/DR, performance, capacity planning, overall monitoring, compliance, and documentation.
Requirements
- Manage and lead a small team of DBAs, providing guidance and sharing best practices.
- Experience conducting enterprise modernization and upgrade programs.
- Identify, assess, and escalate operational risks to senior leadership with clear mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with large financial services or similarly complex enterprise environments.
- Ability to push back constructively on misaligned demands, unclear ownership, or inappropriate risk transfer.
- Utilize available toolset (OpsRamp, SQL Sentry, Embarcadero DB/Artisan, etc.) for database tuning.
- Develop HA/DR strategies to meet or exceed application RTO/RPO targets and implement solutions for managing backup and recovery.
- Support and mentor software developers to drive proper coding practices and assist in the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures/functions/triggers/etc.
- Participate in and manage 24x7 on-call rotation to support database environment.
- Support ancillary systems in the database environment (Delphix, etc.).
- Prior ownership of audit, compliance, or regulatory interactions.
- Experience with Azure technologies as they related to the Microsoft Data Platform is preferred.
- Ideal candidates will have some familiarity with other DBMSs and be able to monitor and triage issues across all database management systems in the Mizuho environment as required (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, etc.).
