Health Care Social Worker (Bachelors) - Inpatient Psychiatry - Mental Health and Addictions

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Health Care Social Worker to provide clinical services to individuals in an inpatient psychiatry setting. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team and provide a wide range of clinical services, including screening, assessment, individual counselling, treatment planning, and crisis intervention. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work. The ideal candidate will have two years of related clinical experience and a high degree of proficiency in screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work
• Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW)
• Two years' related clinical experience
• Knowledge of community resources/programs and community development methods
• High degree of proficiency in screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment
• Strong problem solving skills
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships within health care and the community at large
• Knowledge and experience with harm reduction strategies and stages of change theory
• Knowledge and experience with brief intervention strategies, solution focused approaches, motivational interviewing skills and client engagement strategies
• Knowledge and experience with trauma informed care approach
• Knowledge of social determinants of health/social context and its importance to decision formulation
