The Police Officer position at UMass Memorial Health involves enforcing policies, conducting patrols, performing traffic duties, and promoting crime prevention. The officer will make lawful arrests and provide court testimony when necessary. The position requires good communication skills and the ability to work under stressful conditions. Prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
Requirements
- Equivalent to high school education plus additional specialized courses
- Entry level candidates will be required to attend a full-time police academy authorized by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee
- Academy trained and entry level officers must be able to obtain certification as a law enforcement officer by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) and through the Massachusetts State Police (SSPO)
- First Responder, Driver's License, OCAT and in-service classes required
- Class A license to carry firearms in Massachusetts required
- CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire/transfer into this job as a condition of employment
- Officers must successfully complete the annual firearms training
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with the general public
- Ability to work under sometimes-stressful conditions and maintain a calm composure
