The Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) performs tasks under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) in radiation oncology. The MPA assists in validating new radiotherapy technology, improving quality control, and supporting daily clinical physics tasks.
Requirements
- Performs patient specific QA measurements following established procedures by QMP.
- Performs measurements in phantom for the purpose of treatment plan dose verification.
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly QA checks under direct supervision of a QMP.
- Assists with implementation of new therapeutic treatment procedures.
- Follows instructions of a QMP on gathering of specific commissioning data and measurements for treatment machines.
- Follows instructions of a QMP on evaluation and verification of specific functions for a particular technology.
- Performs validation measurements for new technology and processes data.
- Assists QMP in developing, validating, and documenting tests and QA procedures for new technology and processes.
- Assists QMP in developing training materials for new technology and processes.
- Assists QMP in training other staff and faculty on specific technology and processes.
- Assists in minor equipment repairs and oversees vendor repair actions, with appropriate training.
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills required.
