Behavior Specialist / Teacher Assistant

Behavior Specialist/Teacher Assistant at West Bay Collaborative will work with educators and staff to develop behavior strategies for students with challenging behaviors. Responsibilities include data collection, program monitoring, student support, and communication with the school community. This role requires comfort with crisis intervention and ability to effectively model appropriate behavior.

Requirements

• Certification as a Teaching Assistant from the Rhode Island Department of Education preferred, or willingness to be trained on site.
• Completion of a B.A. or B.S. in a related field (Sociology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, etc.) preferred; Associate's Degree holders will be considered.
• Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging behaviors.
• Knowledge and understanding of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environment.
• Possession or ability to obtain a current Chauffeur’s license.
• Training and competency in Crisis Intervention/Mediation preferred, or ability to successfully complete training on hire.
• Sufficient maturity, self-confidence, and work habits to serve as a role model to students.
• Clear record on Criminal Background Check.
