American Steamship Company is a U.S. flag marine carrier operating six 1,000‑foot vessels on the Great Lakes, transporting iron ore, coal and stone to steel mills, power plants and distribution docks in the U.S. and Canada. The company maintains a seasoned deck and engineering crew and operates seasonally from late March to mid‑January.

Licensed Deck Officers, Relief
US Coast Guard/MMC and TWIC card required. Valid passport or driver’s license and US work authorization. Excellent communication and safety skills are needed
Able Seaman - Full Time
Requires US Coast Guard Mariner Credentials (MMC). Must have a valid passport/driver's license and be authorized to work in the US. Physical exam and pass a pre-employment drug test
Cook - Full Time
MMC/SF certification and current passport/TSWC card. Must be authorized to work in the US, have a pre-employment physical passing clearance
QMED (Qualified Member of the Engine Department) - Full Time
US Coast Guard MMC & TWIC with QMED endorsement. Legal work authorization and pass pre-employment physical.
Ordinary Seaman(OS)/Wiper - Full Time
