Americans United for Separation of Church and State is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1947 that champions constitutional church‑state separation to safeguard freedom of religion for all Americans. The group employs high‑impact litigation, strategic lobbying, and grassroots advocacy to prevent religious influence over public policy, protect the free exercise and establishment clauses, and challenge discrimination justified by religious beliefs. Its distinctive strength lies in a diverse, nationwide network that includes lawyers, lobbyists, students, activists, and faith leaders, as well as secular allies, fostering inclusive dialogue across genders, races, religions, and identities. Through this broad coalition, Americans United works to ensure government neutrality in matters of faith and to uphold civil and religious rights throughout the country.
