Job Description
The Principal Planner is responsible for complex professional planning work, organizing and coordinating planning activities, gathering and analyzing research data, and preparing written reports.
Requirements
- Determines data needs for complex planning studies and collects, analyzes, and evaluates the data
- Prepares reports, projects, and exhibits as needed
- Participates in preparation of long-range planning studies, corridor studies, Comprehensive Plan updates, and annexation studies
- Develops, organizes, and implements short range land use plan measures
- Assists Director in preparation for, and presentation to, the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council
- Makes presentations to Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and other boards/groups as needed
- Interprets and prepares amendments to the City's Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance and related Codes/Ordinances as needed
- Conducts plat and site plan reviews for new land development projects
- Conducts reviews and makes recommendations for zoning requests
- Establishes and maintains communication with other agencies involved in planning activities which impact the City
- Maintains records of statistical data and supplies data as requested
- Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
