Job Description
The Houston Chronicle is seeking a Sports Data Reporter to analyze sports data and craft compelling stories. This role involves collaborating with sports journalists to uncover the economic impact of athletics, particularly through NIL deals and player compensation. The reporter will produce data-focused journalism using tools like Excel, Google Sheets, Python, and Datawrapper, as well as providing data training and mentorship.
Requirements
- Experience working collaboratively in a deadline-driven newsroom.
- Ability to self-manage multiple projects and balance competing demands.
- Command of Excel and Google Sheets.
- Comfort using Python, R or similar tools to clean, analyze and present data.
- Comfort using Datawrapper or Adobe Illustrator/ai2html.
- Knowledge of Git and Github.
- Learning new data skills.
