Fiber Splicer job description: Splicing large & small count Fiber Cables, utilizing proper techniques to splice fiber optic cable, troubleshooting of fiber utilizing an OTDR, strong communication skills, proper record keeping, and knowledge of safety regulations within OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other construction-related guidelines.
Requirements
- Utilize proper techniques to splice fiber optic cable.
- Prep/Splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical fiber cables
- Troubleshooting of fiber utilizing an OTDR.
- Strong communication skills are required between the splicer and tech ops manager to address problems as soon as possible.
- Proper record keeping and be able to review cable records as necessary.
- Knowledge, understanding, and practice of safety regulations within OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other construction-related guidelines.
- Maintain equipment and vehicle to a high standard.
- Work indoors and outdoors as needed.
- Iterate to the project/construction managers detailed accounts of field activity, both verbal and written.
- Coordinate with tech ops managers to verify and perform work as directed.
- Night work as needed for things like node splits.
- Able to be on call for emergencies involving damaged cables.
- Must know ribbon fiber.
- Must know fiber to the home.
- Telecommunications— Knowledge of transmission and CATV telecommunications systems.
- Public Safety— Knowledge of keeping the work area safe for the public.
- Computers and Electronics— Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware/software for keeping proper records.
- Mechanical— Knowledge of optical splicing equipment like a cleaver, splicer, and bucket truck
