
Job description
Performs all pathology clerical and secretarial duties using anatomic and laboratory computer systems. Files, locates, and retrieves materials from files as requested. Answers telephone inquiries regarding surgical pathology and handles send outs and case coordination of consults for the department.
Files and retrieves surgical, cytology and bone marrow reports, slides and blocks. Prepares reference laboratory specimens for transport and assures reference reports are delivered, filed, and forwarded to the ordering clinician. Answers telephones, takes messages accurately, screens calls, and directs calls to appropriate personnel; provides varied information to callers.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
