Direct Support Professional - Garfield, NJ

We are hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for our Bergen County residential programs. The ideal candidate possesses a wide range of skills and is eager to promote YAI's mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, love, work, and learn in their communities.

Requirements

• Assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities
• Uphold personal rights, display patience and tolerance, and provide emotional support
• Support people to meet personal goals that characterize quality of life
• Engage in respectful communications and conversations through person-first language
• Encourage socializing and facilitate activities that provide social capital and connections to the community
• Responsible for overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals at all times
• Maintain program guidelines for the protection of individuals and facilitate learning and training in fire safety
• Identify and escalate signs of an individual’s potential harm to self or others
• Ensure health, wellness, and safety by providing appropriate supervision and managing crisis situations
• Implement Behavior Support Plans and collect, record, and summarize data on individuals’ observable behavior
