The Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to support our ongoing AGS operations. The role involves creating, reviewing, and publishing web maps, web services and hosted layers, as well as developing GIS-based applications and tools. The specialist will also manage GIS layer inventories and offer guidance on enhancing geodatabase production and metadata records.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, GIS, geography, engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years GIS work experience in industry, academia, or government.
- Advanced to professional-level proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online is required.
- Standard-level proficiency in ArcGIS Enterprise Portal is required.
- GIS database design is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency with ESRI products such as ArcGIS HUB/Site, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ModelBuilder, ArcGIS StoryMaps.
- Familiarity with a variety of programming languages (e.g., Python (ArcPy), Java, JavaScript, or R).
- Experience with spatial data analysis and statistical geoprocessing tools are required.
- Experience with cloud-based storage solutions such as Microsoft Azure is required.
- Experience with database management software such as Microsoft SQL Server is an asset.
- Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) designation is an asset.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively with limited direction while demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills.
