Requirements

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
• Asepsis principles and practices
• Surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedure
• Setup of sterile instrument table and preparation of supplies
• Assistance with draping of patient and operative area
• Maintenance of aseptic technique and corrective measures in the event of contamination
• Care, handling, and disposition of specimen
• Inspection of instruments, trays, and packages for sterility and completeness
• Proper functioning of instruments before use
• Correct receipt and labeling of solutions and medications
• Participation in Universal Protocol
• Fire risk assessment and safety measures
• Maintenance of sharps safety measures
• Organized sterile back table and point of use instrument cleaning standards
• Collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists
