Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and renders radiopharmaceuticals, performs diagnostic studies, and administers therapeutic doses under the direction of a physician. The position requires following radiation safety techniques and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Mixes stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses under direction of physician.
- Calibrates equipment.
- Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film.
- Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
- Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under direction of physician.
- Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
