Child Life Specialist

A Child Life Specialist is a trained healthcare professional who focuses on improving patient and family care, reducing stress, and assisting with coping with hospitalization. They plan activities, use teaching materials, and make appropriate referrals to outside organizations to prepare children and families for procedures and hospitalization.

Requirements

• Plans activities and interventions to aid pediatric patients in coping with hospitalization
• Assists patients in the continuation of normal growth and development during hospitalization
• Uses appropriate teaching materials to prepare children/families for procedures and hospitalization
• Makes appropriates referrals to outside organizations
• Participates in unit rounds, patient care conferences and inter-disciplinary rounds
