Join our dynamic team as a Grinder Operator A, where you will independently set up, operate, and adjust a variety of grinding machines, ensuring that each part meets stringent quality specifications. You will play a key role in optimizing machine capacities, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe work environment by performing thorough safety checks.
Requirements
- Independently set up, operate, and adjust various types of grinders, including thread, internal, centerless, external (i.e. outside diameter), and surface grinders, to meet quality specifications.
- Use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check machined parts for finish and dimensions.
- Select and secure appropriate tools, fixtures, and machine attachments to efficiently accomplish assigned work.
- Interpret charts, blueprints, sketches, and job layouts, utilizing shop mathematics, including trigonometry, for accurate setups.
- Perform layout work for assigned tasks and sequence work operations effectively.
- Ensure full utilization of machine capacities while minimizing machining time and the number of setups.
- Adjust the feed of oils and coolants as necessary during operations.
- Detect faulty tools and take corrective action according to shop practices and procedures.
- Obtain work packages and ensure all necessary documentation, including work orders and drawings, is available at the machine.
- Perform safety checks on machines, ensuring the work area is clear of obstacles and that grinding wheels are free from damage.
- Operate various grinders while adhering to engineering drawing tolerances, including concentricity and flatness.
- Check parts dimensionally using precision instruments, such as micrometers and bore gauges, to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Access and set machine coordinates or index points using NC and CNC programs at the machine controller.
- Submit in-process or finished work to inspectors as required by work orders or shop policy.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and maintain personal and tool certifications.
- Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
- Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
- Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
- Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
- Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
- Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.
