Performs entry-level technical or specialized work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment plant and its processes.
Requirements
- Controls pumps, valves, and other processing equipment to treat wastewater
- Reads, interprets, and adjusts meters and gauges to make sure plant equipment and processes are working properly
- Operates chemical feeding devices
- Performs sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process and sludge management; adjusts chemical levels if necessary
- Performs the installation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all of their components
- Operates computers to monitor equipment, schedule and record maintenance activities, and produce reports
- Maintains open communications with the Chief Operator regarding the treatment process and pump stations operation and malfunctions; makes recommendations for repairs and improvements to these systems
- Prepares and submits reports as directed
- Maintains the physical appearance of the plant by painting, weeding, mowing, etc.
- Monitors alarms
- Performs all work in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
- Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, electronics from theft, loss, destruction and/or negligence
- Attends weekly safety meetings
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of wastewater production and treatment
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures in order to conduct tests
- Knowledge of state and federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to perform corrective maintenance
- Knowledge of standard procedures for chemical treatment and disinfecting
- Knowledge of safety practices appropriate for dealing with occupational and health hazards encountered in wastewater production and treatment environment
- Skill in diagnosing and correcting equipment malfunction
- Skill in basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair
- Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Skill in using mathematics to solve problems
- Ability to perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations
- Ability to apply data to formulas of treatment requirements, flow levels, and concentration levels
- Ability to utilize computer for monitoring telemetry system, alarms, and maintenance management program
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule
