Computational Materials Scientist

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Computational Materials Engineer to support the design, development, and verification of fusion power plants. The role focuses on materials selection, process-structure-properties relationships, and modeling to enable the deployment of commercially viable fusion power. The ideal candidate will be skilled in computational materials science and possess knowledge of high-temperature materials and extreme environment modeling.

Requirements

• MS in Materials Science Engineering, Applied Physics, Physical Chemistry, or related field
• Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in experimental or computational materials science
• Implementation and/or authorship of codes for calculation and analyses of material properties
• Validation of models with experimental data or physical mechanism bounds
• Understanding process-structure-properties-performance principles
• Understanding of the sensitivity to uncertainty
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally
• Excellent organizational skills
