Backend — Principal Engineer

Commvault is seeking a Backend Principal Engineer to lead technical initiatives and drive architectural decisions for their cloud-native data protection platform. The successful candidate will have significant ownership of complex production backend systems, strong leadership skills, and a passion for collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role is based in Bangalore, India.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Java, Rust)
• Experience leading ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives
• Strong ability to translate business, customer, and operational requirements into clear technical designs
• Experience in designing, building, and evolving distributed, cloud-native systems
• Experience making high-impact architectural decisions and communicating them to stakeholders
• Highly collaborative and self-driven with a strong sense of shared ownership
