Job Description
The Guidance Counselor (High School) is responsible for providing a comprehensive guidance program to high school students, managing schedules and placement, providing course information and recommendations, and assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement. The counselor will also administer and interpret career assessment tools, plan and coordinate college and career-related activities, and manage ongoing department programs.
Requirements
- Assesses and monitors students for the purpose of identifying student need to attend Alternative Education Program
- Assists in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and reporting
- Assists students with college entrance requirements
- Attends meetings and workshops for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information
- Coordinates with teachers, college and university personnel, outside agencies, and/or community
- Counsels students, parents, and guardians
- Prepares a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities
- Presents information for the purpose of enabling students to develop tools needed for academic success
- Provides a variety of support services for students
- Provides brief crisis interventions identifying the cause of the issue
- Researches program eligibility requirements
- Schedules and monitors student classes and academic progress
- Serves as liaison with local community colleges for Dual Enrollment courses
