AI Engineer

Critical Manufacturing is seeking an AI Engineer to join their team in Porto, Portugal. The role involves developing AI infrastructure for manufacturing systems, creating tooling for model observability and telemetry, and building retraining pipelines. The ideal candidate will have hands-on machine learning experience, including training and testing models, and a practical understanding of common model families. Additionally, experience with LLMs in production or applied settings, server development, APIs, and containerization is preferred.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of hands-on machine learning experience
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with LLMs in production or applied settings
• Experience with agentic coding workflows or LLM-based code assistance
• Familiarity with server development, APIs, and containerization
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfortable writing production code
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: version control, testing, code review, documentation
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team and work well under technical leadership
• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills
