The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services.
Requirements
- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgment, including prescribing appropriate medications
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
- Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection
- Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care
- Collaborating, supporting, and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members
- Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners
- Perform procedures including: Bone Marrow Biopsies, Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Punch skin biopsy with simple suture
- See scheduled and unscheduled patients
- Attend program required meetings
- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies
- Maintain institutional requirements for compliance
