Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT)

The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services.

Requirements

• Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis
• Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations
• Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities
• Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgment, including prescribing appropriate medications
• Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
• Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection
• Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care
• Collaborating, supporting, and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members
• Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners
• Perform procedures including: Bone Marrow Biopsies, Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Punch skin biopsy with simple suture
• See scheduled and unscheduled patients
• Attend program required meetings
• Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME
• Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies
• Maintain institutional requirements for compliance
