The Detention Commander plans, coordinates, and supervises the operations and staff at the detention facility. Performs supervisory and technical work in detention, protection, and transportation of prisoners to ensure the safety and protection of citizens, staff, and inmates.
Requirements
- Supervises the operation of the detention facility
- Interviews and recommends hiring of staff
- Plans, schedules, and assigns work to staff
- Inspects and monitors subordinates' work
- Performs, as needed, and supervises booking of inmates, housing inmates, transport of inmates, the commissary, and visitations
- Supervises food service staff and operations
- Reviews and conducts after action reports
- Conducts training with staff
- Researches adopted standards for detention operations
- Attends training in jail management and operations
- Conducts audit and training in areas of inmate time computation
- Ensures inmates are transported per court orders and court writs
- Works with multiple detention vendors on annual contract negotiations
- Manages and accountable of Inmate Trust Fund
- Meets regularly with Detention Sergeants
- Reviews applications and conducts interviews
- Performs disciplinary action per Sheriff's Office standards and procedures
