The Metallurgical Laboratory Supervisor provides laboratory testing and product certification support to the mill operating departments. This person is responsible for ensuring safe work practices are in place and continually effective, that personnel are effectively and efficiently performing test sample preparation, testing and certification processes, and that maintenance activities performed to ensure the reliability of the laboratory service.
Requirements
- Technical degree preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience in a supervisory role required
- Demonstrated experience of managing workforce in a material testing lab preferably in a unionized environment
- Possess knowledge of machining methods/practices standard sample preparation techniques and various destructive testing such as tensile, impact, Rockwell, and Brinell hardness testing
- Knowledge of mechanical testing standards such as ASTM A370 is a plus
- Background in ISO 9001 based Quality Management Systems is a plus
- Capable of using MS Office tools such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability in directing and motivating others, conflict management, and effective communication
