
Job description
The Senior Environment and Safeguards Specialist will work with the FAO Country Offices in Pakistan to ensure the implementation of environmental and social safeguards standards in the Transforming Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water Management Project. The specialist will manage and coordinate the implementation of FAO and GCF's Environmental and Social Safeguards Standards, develop and roll out a safeguard monitoring and reporting system, and lead ESS capacity building and training activities.
The specialist will review and update the project Environmental and Social Management System, coordinate and manage the project safeguards, develop and roll out a safeguard monitoring and reporting system, and lead ESS field due diligence. They will also ensure that ESS requirements are incorporated into the LOA, MOU, and contract agreement of the project's implementing partners.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, engineering, or socio-ecological sciences, with a minimum of 8 years of professional working experience related to safeguards in a senior role with international agencies, multilateral banks, and other reputed institutions. They will have excellent working knowledge of compliance, safeguarding, due diligence requirements of different donors, and GCF as an asset.
