The Graduate Student Statistical Assistant provides intermediate-level biostatistical and analytic support for research and evaluation projects within the Department of Population Health. Working under the supervision of faculty biostatisticians and senior research staff, the GSSA contributes to study design, data analysis, documentation, and dissemination of findings while advancing their academic and professional training.
Requirements
- Assist with study design considerations, including variable selection, endpoint definition, and analytic approaches, under supervision.
- Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using R, SAS, Stata, Python, or other approved software.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and transformation to support reproducible analyses.
- Support power, sample size, or feasibility calculations for proposed or ongoing studies as appropriate to training level.
- Participate in sensitivity or exploratory analyses with guidance from supervising statisticians.
- Create and maintain annotated analytic scripts, data dictionaries, and codebooks following departmental standards.
- Assist with preparing analysis memos summarizing methods, assumptions, and results.
- Use established workflows and version-control or file-management practices to support reproducibility.
- Generate tables, figures, and data visualizations suitable for abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, and internal reports.
- Contribute content to manuscripts or abstracts, particularly in methods and results sections, under faculty guidance.
- Help translate analytic findings into clear summaries for non-technical audiences, including program staff and partners.
- Collaborate with investigators, coordinators, and data owners to ensure secure data handling and compliance with IRB, HIPAA, and data-use requirements.
- Assist with grant and contract submissions by supporting analytic plans, feasibility estimates, or data summaries.
- Participate in team meetings, project planning discussions, and quality-improvement activities for analytic services.
