Under close supervision, fills routine orders for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Technician counts, packages and labels unit doses for inspection by pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals.
Requirements
- General knowledge of pharmacy workflow for medication returns and medication disposal
- Ability to interpret medical abbreviations
- Identification and differentiation of different types of medication orders
- Accurate interpretation of EPIC pharmacy labels
- Ability to recognize and identify various classifications of medications, medication names, dosage forms and routes of administration
- Ability to use available print and online references as appropriate
- Ability to label all medication dosage forms
- Ability to troubleshoot Pyxis equipment
- Ability to utilize technology in the pharmacy
- Ability to prepare non-sterile compounding and packaging
- Ability to accurately draw up oral syringes and compound oral suspensions
- Recognition of regulations for repackaging medications and compliance with labeling and documentation procedures
- Responsibility for answering phones and assisting callers
- Responsibility for inventory, storage and supply maintenance
- Responsibility for processing patient charges and credits
- Responsibility for exchanging emergency carts and completion of required documentation
- Maintenance of cleanliness of equipment and work areas
- Knowledge of departmental quality assurance processes
- Ability to use Microsoft Office products, fax and copy machines and other office equipment
