Under close supervision, fills routine orders for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, including counting, packaging, and labeling unit doses for inspection by pharmacist and filling routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals.
Requirements
- Understand the pharmacy workflow for medication returns and medication disposal
- Interpretation and understanding of medical abbreviations
- Identification and differentiation of different types of medication orders
- Accurate interpretation of EPIC pharmacy labels
- Ability to use available print and online references as appropriate
- Troubleshoot Pyxis equipment
- Utilize technology in the pharmacy
- Preparation of non-sterile compounding and packaging
- Accurately draw up oral syringes, compound oral suspensions
- Comply with all required labeling and documentation procedures
- Answer phones, assist caller with missing medication, respond to Pyxis stockouts
- Inventory, storage and supply maintenance of assigned areas
- Process patient charges, credits and returns to stock any medication not used by patients
- Exchange emergency carts, completion of required documentation
- Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work areas
- Observe and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures
- Follow all safety, quality assurance and infection control standards
- Know the laws and regulations related to controlled substances
- Meet expectations for handling-controlled substances securely and completing all required documentation
- Participate in departmental committees and educational activities
- Understand and uphold regulatory requirements as stated by LABP, USP, TJC, CMS, and any other governing/accrediting body for OLOL
