Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Grab is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to develop backend systems that power digital insurance products and services. The ideal candidate will have experience in backend software development and strong proficiency in one or more programming languages.

Requirements

• Develop scalable backend components that support millions of users
• Collaborate with product, business, and engineering teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and reliability through testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices
• Participate in technical and architectural reviews
• Conduct code reviews for team members
• Participate in on-call rotation to support and respond to production incidents
• Support DevOps and infrastructure teams
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and knowledge sharing to peers and junior engineers
• Analyse system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations
• Stay current with industry trends and latest technologies
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• 4+ years of professional experience in backend software development
• Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages
• Experience with computer science fundamentals
• Demonstrated experience designing and building distributed backend systems
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Experience with database optimization, query performance tuning, and indexing strategies
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Demonstrated mentorship and leadership capabilities
• Ability to balance product, engineering, and business goals
• Experience working in Agile environments
• Strong analytical and debugging skills
