Senior Electrical Engineer

At HDR, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our Building Engineering Services Group in the New England region. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and reviewing electrical engineering systems for medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, including power distribution systems, emergency generators, and lighting fixtures and controls. This is a challenging role that requires expertise in electrical engineering and design concepts, principles, and best practices.

Requirements

• Design and technical review of facility-level electrical engineering for medium-voltage and low-voltage systems
• Conducting and authoring power system studies (short circuit, load flow, and arc flash)
• Leading the work of the electrical BES design team throughout all project phases
• Producing complete design packages including basis of design, contract drawings, and construction specifications
• Designing full low and medium voltage electrical systems, including normal power, emergency power, battery backup, lighting, fire alarm, and security/communication systems
• Designing interior and exterior lighting systems including associated controls utilizing industry standard lighting design software such as AGi32
• Preparing electrical load analysis for each stage of design
• Preparing detailed project electrical systems drawings
• Visiting project sites as requested to verify existing conditions and monitor construction progress
• Conducting facility infrastructure assessments, infrastructure/utility master planning, field surveys, and code/energy evaluations
• Providing support for generation of cost estimates and participating with project BIM coordination to resolve coordination conflicts
• Conducting virtual/on-site work sessions for projects in conjunction with other disciplines, owners, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders
• Coordinating and assisting affected disciplines with project addenda, RFIs, change proposal requests, and change orders
• Supporting the development and mentorship of junior electrical engineers within HDR
• Using computer-based programs such as SKM PowerTools to perform electrical system calculations
• Supporting the creation of life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) reports to select the most life cycle cost effective MEP systems
• Overseeing the development and delivery of all internal electrical design products acting as a lead for quality assurance and quality control
• Reviewing designs completed by third party A/E firms and participating in comment resolution meetings
• Participating in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested
• Performing other duties as needed
