The Director, Global Lab Operations & Lab Services will lead the strategic direction and hands-on management of global 24×7 engineering lab environments. This role owns Global Lab Operations (infrastructure, monitoring, lifecycle, compliance, SLAs) and Lab Services (dev/test/demo/POC environments, network, cybersecurity, lab design) and drives the global rollout of Lab-as-a-Service (LaaS).
Requirements
- Provide strategic direction and day-to-day operational leadership for multi-region, 24×7 lab environments; balance long-term transformation with hands-on execution and escalation management.
- Standardize and align regional labs to a unified global operating model, tooling, virtualization platforms, and processes.
- Own setup, deployment, configuration, teardown, monitoring, incident response, and SLA/KPI governance for physical and virtual lab infrastructure.
- Lead virtualization and software-defined infrastructure strategy, lifecycle management, automation/orchestration, and VM/network pool optimization.
- Manage global inventory allocation, forecasting, procurement support, BOM reviews, and lifecycle activities to maximize utilization and reduce duplication/cost.
- Build and operate global Lab Services: development/test/validation/demo environments, design for new product introductions, and close partnership with engineering teams to translate program needs into lab capabilities.
- Drive global LaaS implementation: self-service provisioning, automation, catalog and workflow design, and integration with monitoring and inventory systems.
- Manage third-party vendors for operational augmentation, tooling, deployment, and capacity services; hold vendors accountable for execution.
- Maintain global business continuity, redundancy, failover, and incident recovery plans; report on resilience and readiness metrics to executives.
- Define and maintain KPIs and dashboards for uptime, SLA attainment, utilization, cost savings, and LaaS adoption; use analytics to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead global change management and digital transformation efforts for lab operations, including development of change plans, stakeholder engagement, communication strategies, and programs to maximize adoption of new operating models, tools, and processes across regions.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders across engineering, R&D, finance, facilities, security and executive leadership on capacity, tradeoffs, and risk.
