The Regional EH&S Manager plans, directs, promotes and manages safety for the region. Directs activities to ensure the safety and security of all personnel, equipment and property of the company and ensures OSHA and DOT compliance at multiple locations.
Requirements
- Assists in the development of measurable safety performance objectives
- Supports the implementation of safety policies, processes, procedures and training programs in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations
- Performs safety training to employees, including new hires, in order to meet OSHA/DEP/DOT and other regulatory agency requirements
- Administers workers compensation activities throughout the entirety of the claim process
- Works closely with compensation carrier to manage work related injuries and manage program costs
- Ensures DOT compliance, including working with DOT Compliance Specialist on accident/injury intervention, accident reporting, and other associated tasks
- Investigates and reports on liability programs in the region, in addition to WC and vehicle accidents
- Chairs various safety meetings to discuss safety concerns and suggests to the committee ways to correct any safety concerns that have been identified
- Ensures corrective measures are implemented in a timely and effective manner
- Holds other safety meetings in support of facility objectives
- Evaluates accidents or incidents that result in workers’ compensation claims and recommends appropriate action in order to prevent future occurrences
- Ensures safety observations are completed and manages the resulting action log, including any corrective actions that are required
- Works closely with EHS Director to ensure compliance through training, documentation of training, and to meet DOT, DEP, EPA, and related agencies’ requirements
- Maintains personal protective equipment and promotes/monitors the use of equipment throughout the facility
- Conducts monthly building/safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards/safety issues
- Works in conjunction with Department Managers to implement corrective and preventive actions for injury avoidance
- Inspects safety equipment or ensures the inspection of safety equipment to validate that it works properly
- On an on-going basis recommends changes in safety program to lower accident frequency or severity and recommends acquisition of new equipment to minimize occupational hazards
- Coordinate external testing for the facility and employees
- Provides accurate and timely reporting and information to various functions
- Maintains and updates all safety related records and KPIs as needed
- Responsible for managing the security of several operating facilities
- Ensures compliance with developed emergency and evacuation procedures
- Liaisons external on regulatory visits, inspections, and events including environmental emergencies
- Maintains professional affiliations to be well-informed of new developments and innovations in terms of safety and education
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
