The Fleet Technician 2 will repair and diagnose major components of various truck and trailing equipment, with little or no supervision, and conduct Preventive Maintenance services.
Requirements
- Comply with all safety and best practices and follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, power train, electrical systems, HVAC systems, steering systems, electronics, engine bolt on items, brake systems, suspension systems, and after treatment devices
- Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance, and complete vehicle diagnosis
- Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for 'trade-ins' and prepare new equipment for delivery
- Must be annual vehicle inspector certified and brake inspector certified (per DOT requirements)
- Perform all levels of PM services on truck and trailing equipment as well as DOT inspections
- Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
- Maintain work area appearance and safely
- Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
- Ensure compliance with DOT standards and properly document work completed
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, wiring diagrams, and pressure gauges
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
- Provide customer service to the drivers who need maintenance work
- Maintain inventory of and care for company tools
- Proficiently enter all transactions within the maintenance system
- Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
- Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components etc
