Lead Programs Counsel, North America

Role Overview

Lead Programs Counsel, North America will serve as the primary legal advisor to Liberty Mutual's North America Programs & Delegated Authority business and leadership across admitted and non-admitted / E&S markets. This role will support Liberty Mutual's growth in programs and other delegated authority arrangements by advising on the structuring, launch, negotiation, and governance of new and existing program relationships.

What You Will Do

Serve as the primary legal advisor to Liberty Mutual's North America Programs & Delegated Authority business and leadership across admitted and non-admitted / E&S markets. Support Liberty Mutual's growth in programs and other delegated authority arrangements by advising on the structuring, launch, negotiation, and governance of new and existing program relationships.

This role requires a highly motivated, collaborative attorney with 5+ years of insurance industry legal experience, demonstrated expertise in domestic insurance regulation (P&C), and experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating delegated authority, MGA, program, and related distribution or services agreements.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar (eligible for in-house counsel registration as applicable)
• Typically 5+ years of insurance industry legal experience, whether in house at a P&C insurer or in private practice representing insurers
• Demonstrated expertise in domestic insurance regulation (P&C), including practical experience across admitted and non-admitted (E&S) markets
• Experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating delegated authority, MGA, program, and related distribution or services agreements, and advising on claims handling and TPA arrangements, preferred
• Familiarity with reinsurance structures and arrangements relevant to programs business, including fronting and other risk transfer frameworks, preferred
• Proven experience partnering with Underwriting and, where relevant, Product on insurance product development, program structures, and regulatory strategy
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and client-facing skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal issues succinctly to executives and non-lawyers
• Business orientation, sound judgment, responsiveness, and a collaborative approach
