The Cheerleading Advisor is responsible for organizing, developing, and implementing the college cheerleading program, including planning and conducting practices, preseason activities, and game-day preparation. The Advisor promotes a safe and inclusive environment, enforces safety standards, and ensures appropriate conduct and adherence to applicable College, Athletics, and event policies.
Requirements
- Program Leadership & Coaching: Organize, develop, and implement the cheerleading program, including practice plans, skill progression, conditioning, choreography, and supervision of student-athletes.
- Game-Day & Event Support: Ensure an active cheerleading squad that participates at all home football games and all home men’s and women’s basketball games.
- Tryouts, Selection & Student Accountability: Oversee an annual tryout process and provisional period, including eligibility verification, evaluation criteria, and ongoing performance feedback.
- Safety, Risk Management & Equipment: Maintain a safe practice and performance environment, including appropriate spotting and skill instruction, adherence to established cheer safety guidelines, and ordering/maintaining required supplies and equipment.
- Administrative & Budget Coordination: Manage the cheerleading program budget in coordination with the Director of Athletics.
- Fundraising & Advancement Coordination: Oversee fundraising for the cheerleading program in coordination with the Director of Athletics and Advancement.
- Communication & Collaboration: Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates with student-athletes and Athletics staff; coordinate logistics as needed for practices and home events.
- Policy Compliance & Conduct: Promote appropriate conduct and sportsmanship and ensure adherence to applicable College and Athletics policies and event expectations.
