The Broadcast Operations Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of broadcast technology and streaming support for Major League Baseball. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, be well organized and possess a strong understanding of audio and video broadcast systems.
Requirements
- Actively monitor broadcast and related systems to ensure smooth gameday operations
- Assist with supporting junior/seasonal members of the broadcast operations team
- Work closely with the management team to develop and refine processes with remote and local teams for Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League Baseball (MiLB)
- Proactively escalate issues and communicate effectively to other departments within MLB as well as club-specific contacts to expedite the resolutions of incidents
- Act as Tier 1/Tier 2 support for game-day streaming operations for the MLB.tv and MiLB.TV products and support for broadcast related MLB hardware, software, and communications devices within MLB Ballparks and MLB data centers
- Monitor and analyze real-time telemetry for Local Media, RSN, and National Broadcaster feeds, ensuring signal integrity for both OTT (MLB.tv) and Linear distribution (Partner Distribution), including SCTE-35 ad-insertion triggers and closed captioning compliance where present
- Provide technical operations support to MLBs local Media team, Replay Operations, Broadcast Engineering, Player Tracking, and Ballpark Infrastructure teams
- Manage IP transmission workflows utilizing Zixi, SRT, and RTP over WAN. Configure and troubleshoot encoders/decoders for low-latency delivery of content throughout MLBs large distribution network
- Support other members of the operations staff to ensure proper documentation of incidents for nightly engineering reports
- Drive Incident Management protocols during live events, including rapid triage, failover execution, as well as support discovery for post-mortem root cause analysis
- Proactively monitor, analyze, and rectify technical faults in a variety of broadcast and broadcast related IP systems
- Provide technical operations support of ballpark communications systems as problems are reported
- Occasionally provide on-site assistance with remote ballpark teams for installation, decommission, and general upkeep of ballpark devices
- Perform regular sweeps of facilities to identify issues and notify the system owners of faults found with their equipment
