Correctional Officer (Part-Time)

Correctional Officer performs all operational duties necessary for the proper care and custody of jail inmates, including general custodial and detention functions.

Requirements

• Processes inmates in and out of jail
• Maintains custody and care of all inmates and their possessions
• Transports inmates to the courtroom, doctor's office and other locations
• Completes all necessary logs, records and reports
• Inspects incoming packages and gifts
• Distributes and documents medications
• Receives and logs department communications
• Performs minor maintenance of grounds and buildings
• Fingerprints and photographs inmates
• Classifies incoming inmates and places them in proper cells
• Observes prisoners directly and indirectly
• Promotes acceptable attitudes and behaviors of inmates
• Enforces institutional rules and standard operation procedures
• Reports infractions orally/written
• Initiates segregation or disciplinary procedures
• Explains rules and procedures of the facility to prisoners
• Participates in continuing education and training sessions
• Performs other work-related duties as required
