Correctional Officer performs all operational duties necessary for the proper care and custody of jail inmates, including general custodial and detention functions.
Requirements
- Processes inmates in and out of jail
- Maintains custody and care of all inmates and their possessions
- Transports inmates to the courtroom, doctor's office and other locations
- Completes all necessary logs, records and reports
- Inspects incoming packages and gifts
- Distributes and documents medications
- Receives and logs department communications
- Performs minor maintenance of grounds and buildings
- Fingerprints and photographs inmates
- Classifies incoming inmates and places them in proper cells
- Observes prisoners directly and indirectly
- Promotes acceptable attitudes and behaviors of inmates
- Enforces institutional rules and standard operation procedures
- Reports infractions orally/written
- Initiates segregation or disciplinary procedures
- Explains rules and procedures of the facility to prisoners
- Participates in continuing education and training sessions
- Performs other work-related duties as required
