Works under general supervision to perform journeyman-level work, such as repairing and maintaining plumbing systems; evaluating layout plans and cost estimates related to plumbing; installing new plumbing; repairing existing plumbing fixtures; performing minor rebuilding tasks; and repairing or replacing miscellaneous plumbing equipment. Repairs gas-fired appliances and piping.
Requirements
- Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Studies building plans and blueprints to determine work areas for repair and installation of pipe.
- Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided that would prevent weakening of structures resulting from the installation of pipe and the repairs of existing pipes.
- Cuts and threads pipe to correct measurements; bends pipe.
- Uses specialized and common tools.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipe composed of metals, plastic, and non-metals such as glass and vitrified clay.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, showers, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwasher, water softeners, hot air heaters, and backflow devices.
- Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers, mending busted pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Cleans work area.
- Responds to emergency situations, when requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
