Staff Attorney (Rapid Response)

New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) is seeking a highly motivated Spanish-speaking Staff Attorney to represent detained immigrant New Yorkers and those at imminent risk of detention and deportation. The attorney will provide legal representation before various courts, prepare and file appeals and petitions, and screen clients for eligibility for immigration relief. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $88,265-$101,009.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited school
• Admission to the New York State bar
• Fluency in Spanish
• Minimum 1 year experience working in removal defense
• Excellent writing, speaking, and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, community organizations, and the public
• Ability to work in a collaborative setting with other professionals
• Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights, criminal justice, and/or social justice issues
