The Assistant Director is responsible for the coordination of the recruitment, enrollment and academic support of program participants for the SSS - Teacher Preparation program. Reports to the SSS Executive Director.
Requirements
- Master's degree in education, counseling, counselor education, psychology, special education, student personnel, or a related field
- Extensive knowledge of recruitment, academic mentoring, follow-up tracking
- Minimum two years of experience in a student support services setting in four-year college or university
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois State Education Licensure requirements
- Experience in developing student programming that fosters confidence-building, leadership, and academic skills
- Ability to teach in individual and small group instruction settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic, career and advising principles and practices
- Experience in academic advisement in higher education or related field
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, customer service, communication and time management skills with ability to pay attention to details and follow-through
- Demonstrated initiative and experience working with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Working software knowledge, including Word, Excel, Access, student databases
- Previous experience working on a federally funded program preferred
- Successful experience working with college students from diverse backgrounds, including educational, socioeconomic, culturally ethnic, and physical and/or learning disabilities
