Healthcare Social Worker (Masters) Med/Surg/Heart Health - Rehabilitation & Supportive Care

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Healthcare Social Worker to provide psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counselling, resource counselling, and discharge planning and case management in the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department. The successful candidate will work autonomously and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to enable clients and their families to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work from a recognized university
• Registered or eligible for registration with the NSCSW
• Two (2) years of clinical experience as a clinical Social Worker
• Strong counselling and communication skills
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of human behaviour including systems theory, family dynamics, group dynamics and theories of behaviour change
• Awareness of local community resources and agencies
• Capacity to achieve a high degree of autonomous practice
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team context
• Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and loss, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving and continuum of care and intervention skills that come from knowledge of theoretical frameworks/approaches to practice
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
• Minimum two (2) years of experience required
