Research Engineer, Privacy

OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer, Privacy to contribute to the privacy engineering team. The role involves designing and implementing privacy-enhancing technologies like differential privacy and federated learning, investigating model robustness to attacks, and defining privacy standards for AI models. This position will focus on balancing privacy with machine learning capabilities, requiring strong analytical and communication skills.

Requirements

• Hands-on research or production experience with PETs (Privacy-Enhancing Technologies)
• Proficiency in modern deep-learning stacks (PyTorch/JAX)
• Ability to stress-test models for privacy attacks
• Track record of publishing or implementing privacy or security work
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Deep understanding of privacy and machine learning trade-offs
