The Substation Engineer 4 position is responsible for designing and constructing complex electrical power systems, analyzing protection systems, and managing projects to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
Requirements
- Compile and evaluate design and test data
- Operate computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment
- Prepare technical specifications and analyze technical data
- Confer with engineers, customers and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and project management activities
- Design, implement, maintain and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products and systems
- Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
- Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications
- Investigate customer or public complaints, determine nature and extent of problem and recommend remedial measures
- Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget
- Manage the design and construction of large substation projects with minimal supervision
- Represent the Coop in regulatory compliance efforts as a Subject Matter Expert
- Perform a variety of standard engineering computations and analysis
- Prepare engineering drawings, maps, and construction specifications
- Research material specifications and resolve basic material issues
- Conduct construction inspections
- Coordinate with consultants, members, developers and government entities on all projects
- Provide guidance to other department engineers and staff
- Write conceptual design documents for substation projects as assigned
- Use sound engineering judgement to make decisions regarding changes to project scope
- Assist with ordering major equipment and review approval drawings for long lead time material
- Serve as a department and project leader
- Perform fault studies and set relays for transformers, feeders and transmission lines
- Complete assigned tasks
